Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Edido Natural
Origins: Edido Village, Yirgacheffe. Yirgacheffe is a micro-region in Sidama, Ethiopia’s leading coffee-producing region. Its lush climate and mountainous topography are ideal for producing some of the finest Arabica coffees—fruity and floral, bright and balanced.
Farm Information: Grown in the kebele (village) of Edido, these hand-harvested beans were processed at the Aricha Washing and Drying station, which serves an estimated 1,000 smallholder farmers from the surrounding communities.
Altitude: 1950-2150m
Process: Hand-Harvested then processed using the traditional dry-processed/natural
Roast Level: Medium
Flavors: Because of the coffee bean drying in the sun with the fruit still intact, the fruit pops in this coffee. Medium-bodied with prominent strawberry jam and green tea.
Certification: The region is common for “garden coffee” production, where smallholder farmers grow coffee fruits and vegetables alongside coffee, which is their primary cash crop. Most of the coffee grown in smaller plots of land are farmed organically, though not certified
Cupping Notes: 1/2021: Compared this coffee with the Ethiopia Kembata Natural - This coffee does not have a cocoa finish like the Kembata. Instead it has a clean, tea-like body to it. Both coffees have the sweet jam acidity instead of a bright acidity you get from a washed Ethiopian. This Yirgacheffe natural had a pop of strawberry in aroma and the taste compared to the blackberry-blueberry taste in the Natural Kembata.
